The main difference is price
A new iPhone costs full retail. A refurbished one costs a lot less.
You can save hundreds on the same model. The phone does the same things. It runs the same apps. It takes the same photos.
What is the same
A good refurbished iPhone works like new.
- It runs the same version of iOS your model supports.
- It works on Spark, One NZ and 2degrees.
- It is wiped clean and ready to set up.
With us, it is also tested on 80 points and fixed where needed. See how we test every phone.
What is different
A few small things change with refurbished:
- There is no sealed retail box.
- There is no power plug. You get a charge cable that fits.
- The phone may have light marks, based on the grade you pick. See what the grades mean.
None of this changes how the phone works. It keeps the price down and keeps old gear out of the bin.
When new makes sense
New is the better pick in a few cases:
- You want the newest model on day one.
- You want a sealed box as a gift.
- You want the longest run of software updates.
If that is you, buy new. There is nothing wrong with it.
When refurbished is the smart pick
Refurbished wins for most people. Choose it when:
- You want to save hundreds.
- You are happy with last year’s model or older.
- You want a warranty without the new-phone price.
Every iPhone we sell has a 12 month warranty. If it breaks, get in touch and we’ll put it right. Read more on our warranty page.
How much can you save?
It depends on the model and the grade. The savings are in the hundreds, not a few dollars.
Pick an older model to save the most. Pick a higher grade if you want it to look new.
